eCitizen Foundation participates in a White House Meeting with the Administration's NSTIC Policy Heads
The eCitizen Foundation was invited to the White House to discuss the NSTIC policy and implementation plan. At the meeting the eCitizen Foundation invited the administration to speak at a public forum to help educate citizens and organizations about their secure identity plans. Dr. Andy Ozment, Director for Cybersecurity Policy, indicated that pending the normal approval process, he would speak at the forum.
Participants from the eCitizen Foundation were:
- Dan Combs,
- Dazza Greenwood, and
- Daniel Bennett.
Key Points Raised by eCitizen:
The first key point was that the citizen should be the center of the identity eco-system.
The second key point was to inform the staff about upcoming and current eCitizen pilots and other relevant projects.
The third key point was that there needs to be a sustainable model for an advocate to help and protect citizens participating in the identity eco-system. The advocacy agency or organization should represent the interests of the citizen and be unaffiliated with businesses that may provide services and tools.
Other Issues Raised at the Meeting
The eCitizen Foundation was one of the participants in the meeting held at the White House by the administration to get feedback on the rollout of the NSTIC policy and implementation plan.
One of the themes throughout the meeting was the important need for government leadership in order to foster a vibrant private marketplace and sustainable broader eco-system. Dazza Greenwood mentioned the need for a limit on individual liability similar to the $50 liability limit for credit card fraud. There seemed general agreement that appropriate incentives and constraints are needed for businesses and other organizations to ensure security and manage risk to the end-users, including legislation and regulation.
Role of the eCitizen Foundation
The eCitizen Foundation is a non-profit organization that educates the public, governments, private organizations and others on how to create and design citizen centered solutions in an Open, Public, Integrated Architecture.
